HSBC runs a Graduate Trainee Programme, for which it sources talented graduates from local universities. The programme starts in January every year and continues for 18 months, aimed at providing the graduates with practical work experience in their chosen field.

Graduate trainees are considered for all areas of HSBC’s business, including Global Markets, Global Banking (incl Corporate Finance), Trade and Supply Chain, Trade and Supply Chain, etc. For most of its Graduate Trainees, this programme provides them with an entry level career opportunity to join HSBC.

Criteria for selection:

Listed below are the minimum requirements that you are required to meet:

  • - South African citizen
  • - A relevant degree in finance, economics, business or accounting, completion of post-graduate studies would be advantageous
  • - High levels of ambition and self-motivation, supported by a strong desire for a career in banking, within the HSBC Group
  • - Leadership and team working capabilities

Application Instructions:

In order to kick off your application process you will be requested to complete the online application form on the HSBC website. Following this, you will be required to submit copies your transcripts, CV and identity documentation.

You have until 31 July 2013 to complete your online application form and submit your documents. Once HSBC has your details on its database, HSBC will evaluate your application together with all the other applications it receives. If you are successful at this stage of screening, HSBC will invite you to complete a more detailed assessment online. This invitation will be in the form of an email or SMS (therefore please ensure that you complete your contact details correctly during the application process).

There will be two rounds of online assessments, and you will receive feedback as to your progress after each round. Those that make it through both rounds of online assessments will then be internally assessed and shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a full day assessment centre – details of which will be provided to closer to the time. Offers to successful candidates will only be made after the assessment centre.
